NAIROBI, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom firm Huawei has launched an integrated solar energy solution for Kenyan households amid a quest to promote carbon neutrality in the country.

CEO of Huawei Kenya Will Meng said the launch of LUNA 2000, the flagship product of Huawei FusionSolar Residential Smart PV Solution, will ensure that residential premises have access to affordable and cleaner sources of energy.

"It indeed is in our best interest to increase the uptake of solar as a reliable, safe and efficient renewable source of energy in Kenya," Meng said in a statement issued in Nairobi, capital of Kenya, Tuesday, pledging that Huawei will rally behind Kenya's quest for carbon neutrality through investing in expertise, research and development geared towards scaling up access to cleaner energy solutions.

According to Meng, Huawei will leverage its experience and cutting-edge expertise in developing smart energy solutions to enable Kenyan residential and business premises to reduce their carbon footprint.

"At Huawei, we pride ourselves for working toward reducing our carbon footprint and for accelerating carbon neutrality in the countries we operate in," said Meng, noting that the company has utilized clean energy solutions to power base stations and data centers.

He added that Huawei is leveraging emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud to optimize uptake of cleaner energy solutions among homes and businesses.

Joseph Njoroge, principal secretary in the Ministry of Energy, said the launch of Huawei's LUNA 2000 will ensure that homesteads have energy security that is crucial to power appliances and internet at a time when remote working has become the norm.

Njoroge noted that the smart home solar energy storage system equipped with backup boxes will boost lighting of homes unconnected to the national grid. Enditem
