The death toll from last week's glacier disaster in northern India rose to 40 as rescuers found two more bodies, ANI news agency reported on Sunday citing the local government.

The disaster was set off when part of a glacier near Nanda Devi mountain broke off on February 7, unleashing a devastating flood on the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.

According to ANI, 164 people are still missing.
