Indonesia rejects Catalonia declaration of independence

20:57, October 31, 2017

Indonesia on Tuesday reaffirmed its rejection of Catalonia's declaration of independence, saying it would not support separatism in Spain.

"The Indonesian government will definitely not recognize that. It is their domestic issue," Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla commented on Catalonia's unilateral proclamation of independence following a referendum on Oct. 1, which had been declared illegal by the Spanish Constitutional Court.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stressed that Indonesia still regards Catalonia as an integral territory of Spain.
