Indonesia reports 38 new COVID-19 cases, bringing total to 172

JAKARTA, March 17 (Xinhua) -- As many as 38 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Indonesia, bringing the total number in the country to 172, the government's spokesperson for all coronavirus-related matters Achmad Yurianto was quoted by state-owned television station TVRI as saying on Tuesday.

According to him, the new cases were mostly found in Jakarta.

Yurianto also said that the death toll stands at five.

On Monday, the spokesman pointed out that lockdown policy will not be applied, saying that the focus is how to find the source of the virus and conduct isolation.

Some cities in the country have applied an emergency status to pave the way for tackling the virus spread.
