TEHRAN, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iran's capital Tehran will host a conference next month on its peace initiative for Strait of Hormuz, Eghtesadonline news website reported on Sunday.

The conference is scheduled for Jan. 7-8 and will focus on regional cooperation plans, particularly on Iran's initiative of Hormuz Peace Endeavor.

Senior Iranian and regional political officials and pundits are expected to attend the event organized by the Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will address the opening ceremony of the conference.

In addition to the Hormuz peace plan, participants will review the latest developments in the Gulf.

In November, Iran said that it had forwarded the text of peace plan for the Strait of Hormuz to the regional states.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani disclosed the initiative at the meeting of the 74th UN General Assembly.

Rouhani said Iran's Hormuz peace initiative aimed at establishing durable peace in the region.

Iran insists that extra-regional powers cannot bring peace to the region, which could be established through regional states' cooperation.
