JERUSALEM, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said early Monday that it has launched strikes on Iranian targets inside Syria and warned the Syrian forces not to attack Israeli territory or forces.

"We have started striking Iranian Quds targets in Syrian territory. We warn the Syrian Armed Forces against attempting to harm Israeli forces or territory," the Israeli military said in a statement.

The overnight strikes followed cross-border attacks on Sunday in which Israel's military said its air defense systems intercepted a rocket fired from Syria.

Earlier in the day, Damascus said it repelled an Israeli air attack targeting the country's south.
