Japan suffers deadliest arson attack in 30 years

The fire started at around 10:30 am local time on Thursday, and killed 33 people and wounded dozens more. (Photos: VCG)

The target was the three-story studio of Kyoto Animation Co, located in Kyoto, western Japan, known for producing popular TV animation series and related products.

Rescue work was underway during the daytime.

Rescuers searched the building.

Rescue work continued into the night.

By midnight, the building was silent and the rescue work complete.
