Kazakhstan's detained former security chief under probe

Karim Masimov, former chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, is under investigation, the committee announced Thursday, according to the Interfax news agency.

Massimov was detained on suspicion of high treason when violent protests sparked by fuel price hikes were rocking Kazakhstan and led to multiple deaths and many injuries.
