KUWAIT CITY, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait on Monday reported 295 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths, bringing the total infections in the country to 5,278 and the death toll to 40, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The new cases included two Kuwaiti citizens who returned from Britain and France, the statement said.

Currently, 3,291 patients are receiving treatment, including 79 in ICU, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Minister of Health Bassel Al-Sabah announced the recovery of 171 patients from the coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,947.

A Chinese medical team has wrapped up its visit to the Arab country.

During the visit, the team members discussed with their Kuwaiti counterparts China's experience in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, and exchanged detailed information on the prevention and treatment of the disease.

The Kuwaiti government has imposed a nationwide curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

On March 13, Kuwait suspended all commercial flights. The government also closed stores, malls and barbershops in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
