KUWAIT CITY, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait Airways announced on Sunday that it will start the third phase of the repatriation plan Monday and it will last for three days.

During the past three days, Kuwait Airways has operated 34 flights and completed the second phase of the repatriation plan for Kuwaiti citizens abroad, the company said.

According to Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, president of Kuwait's Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (DGCA), the third phase will include 35 flights and is expected to bring home 8,190 Kuwait citizens.

On April 4, the Kuwaiti government announced the plan to return the country's citizens from abroad, starting from April 19 to May 7.

The operation considers the largest plan in the history of Kuwait for evacuating citizens from abroad who face the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is worth noting that Kuwait Airways previously operated 36 flights to evacuate citizens abroad within the first phase of the plan during the period April 19 to 21.

There are about 50,000 Kuwaiti citizens abroad in various countries of the world.

Kuwait on Sunday reported 183 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death, bringing the total infections to 3,075 and death toll to 20, the Health Ministry said in a statement.
