Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti extended his gratitude to China for the medical supply donations during an online speech concerning COVID-19 updates on Thursday.

"Tonight I want to thank Shanghai and our sisiter city of Guangzhou, who are sending us masks and widely-needed personal protective equipment for our frontline doctors and nurses and medical teams," said Garcetti.

This is the power of partnerships, he stressed.

The US now has surpassed China to have the most COVID-19 cases in the world, according to a count run by Johns Hopkins University.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday that he follows closely and is concerned about the development of the COVID-19 outbreak in the US.

In a phone conversation with his US counterpart Donald Trump, Xi has promised cooperation and to continue timely sharing of coronavirus information with the US.

Epidemics know no borders or races and are a common enemy of humankind, Xi said, noting that only by making a collective response can the international community defeat them.
