BEIRUT, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Monday by 456 to 9,337 while the death toll went up by two to 105, the Health Ministry reported.

Caretaker Interior Minister Mohammad Fahmi said Monday that the virus has been spreading and the control is difficult for the moment while adding that governors in each city will supervise the measures taken by citizens to restrict the spread of the virus.

Fahmi urged people to use masks all the time and avoid crowded places while using detergents to clean all purchased products.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Hamad Hassan said Monday that it is very necessary to shut the country down for two weeks to avoid further spread of the virus since the health sector cannot cater to a big number of infected people.

"There are no areas in Lebanon that are free from COVID-19," he said.

Lebanon has been fighting against COVID-19 since Feb. 21.

The country has received several donations from different countries for the fight against COVID-19 including China which offered batches of medical supplies.
