Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva sacked Julio Cesar de Arruda, the commander of the army, on Saturday, two weeks after the Jan. 8 storming of government buildings by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
The dismissal came a day after Lula convened a meeting with his top military chiefs that Arruda also attended.
Lula has previously said he suspects security forces may have been involved in the riots, in which more than 2,000 people were arrested.
