BERLIN, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel's flight to G20 Summit was interrupted on Thursday evening due to a technical problem.

Merkel's plane, Airbus A340 "Konrad Adenauer", took off in Berlin and was originally destined to Buenos Aires where the G20 Summit is set to kick off on Friday.

Due to malfunction of the electric system, the plane circled over the Netherlands and had to return to Germany's western Cologne/Bonn Airport.

Local media Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger reported that fire brigades were dispatched in the event of a hard landing.

Merkel, traveling together with Finance Minister Olaf Scholz and a group of journalists, plans to take another plane to continue their trip.

It's not known how long the delay will last and whether she can attend the G20 summit on time.
