Mexico City (People's Daily) - Mexico's Deputy Health Minister, Hugo López-Gatel, reported that a patient in Mexico City has tested positive for the novel coronavirus for the first time.

The official said that the results of a second test to confirm if it is positive will be ready during the early hours of Friday.

Lopez-Gatell added that the patient is a 35-year-old man who traveled to northern Italy has mild respiratory symptoms: headache, fever and cough.

In front of the possible case of coronavirus in Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, the mayor of Mexico City, said both her government and the federal government are prepared for this type of contingency.

Through a video posted on her Twitter account, she asked citizens to be informed by official channels and not to panic.
