Mexico confirms first case of coronavirus

Mexico City (People's Daily) - The first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Mexico City, and a second case initially tested positive in Sinaloa, which will be corroborated in the next few hours, the country's health authorities reported on Friday morning.

Mexican Deputy Health Minister Hugo López-Gatel said that at 6 am on Friday they confirmed the Mexico City case. The 35-year-old man had traveled to northern Italy, where the virus is spreading.

The official also said that during the night a reactive test was reported in a 41-year-old man in Sinaloa, conducted by the State Laboratory of Public Health. However, he indicated that this test was sent to the Epidemiological Diagnostic and Reference Institute to be corroborated.

Mexico´s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Mexico is prepared to face this disease.

“We are prepared to face this coronavirus situation. We have the doctors, the specialists, the hospitals, the ability to deal with this case of the coronavirus. As it develops, we will attend to the cases,” he said.
