NAY PYI TAW, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and Bangladesh on Tuesday agreed to promote cooperation in border security and rule of law following a meeting between Myanmar Home Minister Lt. Gen. Kyaw Swe and his visiting Bangladeshi counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan.
The 10 points agreed upon at the ministerial meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw cover combating terrorism, illegal border crossing, repatriation and verification of citizenship for those people who were displaced to Bangladesh, triggered by the conflict in Myanmar's northern Rakhine state as well as opening of border liaison offices.
The meeting came after Minister at the State Counselor's Office U Kyaw Tint Swe met with Bangladeshi Minister of Foreign Affairs Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in Dhaka earlier this month.
The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army extremist terrorists launched attacks on police outposts in Myanmar's Rakhine State on Aug. 25, displacing a vast number of residents to areas bordering Bangladesh.
