RAMALLAH, June 11 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian teenager was killed and dozens were injured on Friday by Israeli soldiers during clashes in the West Bank, medics and eyewitnesses said.
The Palestinian ministry of health said in a statement that a Palestinian teenager was killed and six injured by Israeli soldiers in clashes in the village of Beita, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Eyewitnesses said that clashes broke out on Friday afternoon in several West Bank villages when the Palestinians protested against the expansion of Israeli settlements in the enclave, adding that the Israeli soldiers fired teargas canisters at dozens of demonstrators in northern West Bank.
According to medical sources, dozens suffered suffocation near the West Bank cities of Nablus and Ramallah, including children.
The tension between Israelis and Palestinians has been flaring over the past few weeks in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
