NEW DELHI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Four members of a family including two children were killed and one was injured when the roof of their house collapsed on Friday due to the heavy rain in the northern Indian state of Punjab, police said.

The roof collapsed early Friday at Mule Chak village of Amritsar, the main city in Punjab.

"Early today at around 2:30 a.m. (local time), the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rains here, following which four people were killed and one was pulled out in injured condition," a police official at the police control room in Amritsar said.

According to the police, the family was asleep when the roof fell.

The police official said four bodies have been pulled out from the debris and one injured girl has been hospitalized. The dead include husband, wife and their two children.

Heavy rain along with thunderstorm hit parts of Punjab since Thursday evening. The capital city Delhi also received rainfall on Friday morning that caused a sharp dip in temperature.
