A report exposing increasing anti-Asian racism in the United States was released by the China Society for Human Rights Studies on Friday.

By listing data and various specific cases, the report said that many incidents that occurred since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic have exposed the overall racist nature of US society, such as some US politicians' unscrupulous racist remarks and the wave of harassment and attacks on Asian-Americans.

The report said that the US still takes pride in recognizing itself as a "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant" country and that Asian Americans, African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans are subject to discrimination and violations in various forms and cannot fully enjoy their human rights, the report said.

It pointed out that Asian Americans are facing a rise in racist attacks amid the coronavirus pandemic. It cited a survey by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, which showed that, compared with 2019, hate crime cases in the US decreased by 7 percent in 2020, but those against Asian Americans increased by 149 percent. In the first quarter of 2021, violent crimes against Asian Americans in the 15 large cities in the US increased by 169 percent compared with the same period in 2020.

For a long time, racial discrimination against Asian Americans has not attracted enough attention in the US, because the racial conflict between blacks and whites has been society's principal focus of attention, and mainstream society always tends to cover up the suffering of Asian Americans in US history.

The report also attributes the anti-Asian sentiment to some US politicians' racist coronavirus-related attacks on China; white supremacy; "the model minority" label shackling Asian Americans; antagonism between Asian Americans and other US ethnic minorities; and some US politicians' actions that seriously undermine China-US relations.
