Cairo (People’s Daily) - Saudi Arabia announced its first COVID-19 case, and believed to be the result of a Saudi citizen returning from Iran, the country’s health ministry announced on Monday.

Saudi health officials said laboratory results confirmed the country’s first COVID-19 victim crossed the border through Bahrain, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Ministry officials offered assurances that the patient has been quarantined and remains isolated.

Those who were in contact with the patient previously have been accounted for and examined by medical personnel. Samples were also taken and sent to the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The ministry also said the test results would be made public.
