RIYADH, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Saudi-led coalition involved in a war in Yemen requested on Saturday the U.S. to cease inflight refueling for its operations, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The coalition said in a statement that the request was made because it has increased capability to independently conduct inflight refueling in Yemen.

It stressed that Saudi Arabia and other member countries has continually improved military professionalism and self-sufficiency.

The coalition has taken the decision in consultation with the United States.

The Coalition command expresses its hope that the upcoming UN-sponsored negotiations in a third country will lead to a negotiated settlement in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2216.

It also hopes to see an end to the aggression by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias against the Yemeni people in the region, including the threat of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Saudi Arabia has been leading the war in Yemen since 2015 in support of the Yemeni exiled government against Houthi militias.
