Washington (People's Daily) - The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed a second case of novel coronavirus in the US on Friday.

A female Chicago resident in her 60s visited China in late December. The woman returned from Wuhan on January 13.  After experiencing pneumonia-like symptoms she notified a health care provider.

Officials said the woman was quarantined in a hospital and remains in stable condition. Currently, CDC officials are monitoring 63 people in 22 US states.

"CDC believes the immediate risk to the US public is low at this time, but the situation is evolving rapidly," said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases during a conference call with reporters.

On Tuesday, the CDC confirmed the first novel coronavirus case in the US.
