Senegal confirms first case of COVID-19, the second for sub-Saharan Africa

JOHANNESBURG (People’s Daily) - Senegal government officials confirmed the first novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case in the country, the second in sub-Saharan Africa. 

The case involves a French citizen who arrived in Dakar , the nation’s capital on February 26, Minister of Health and Social Action Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr told reporters Monday during a livestream press conference on Facebook. 

The patient sought help on February 28 after suffering from symptoms including fever, headaches, and a sore throat, Sarr said. 

The infected patient has remained under quarantine at the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Center at  Fann Hospital in Dakar.
