NEW DELHI, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Several people were feared trapped under the debris of an old building after it suddenly collapsed in India's western state of Gujarat on Saturday.
At least two laborers were rescued from under the rubble of the building and sent to a nearby hospital. Efforts were being made to find more if still trapped, a local official told Xinhua via phone.
He added that officials from local police, disaster management, and fire brigade department were present to carry out and supervise the rescue work at the site.
The incident occurred at around 1500 hours (Indian Standard Time) in the state's Chhani Jakatnaka area of Vadodara district when work was in progress to demolish the old building.
The five-storey building was said to be shut for quite some time, and that it contained shops and commercial establishments.
