Multiple suicide attacks in Nigeria's northeastern city of Maiduguri claimed 16 lives and wounded 18 others, local police said Monday.
Three suicide bombers wreaked havoc at three different locations in Maiduguri, capital of the northern state of Borno, late Sunday.
Borno State police chief Damian Chukwu, who confirmed the incidents, said a male suicide bomber first ran into a motor park on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
The first suicide blast killed 13 people and wounded five others, Chukwu told Xinhua.
Two female suicide bombers also detonated their improvised explosive devices in other locations in the city, killing three people. Some 13 people were wounded in the other attacks.
The police have launched an investigation into the attacks, Chukwu said.
Terror group Boko Haram is suspected to be responsible for the suicide blasts.
