Sweden has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate whether police improperly expelled three Chinese tourists from a hotel earlier this month.

The Swedish embassy in China said on Sunday in an announcement on its official Weibo account  that it has learned that Sweden has appointed special prosecutors to conduct an independent investigation to determine whether the police have been derelict in their duties or broke the law, after receiving complaints that the police were suspected of violating the law.

The embassy said that in Sweden a special prosecutor is often appointed to investigate claims of police violence.

A Chinese family was reportedly taken to a cemetery in the Swedish capital of Stockholm last Sunday after being denied hotel check-in, according to a statement released by Chinese Embassy in Sweden, prompting massive discussions on social media both home and abroad.
