The Swiss couple, 24 year old Quentin Jeremy Clerc and 24 year old Marie Rroze, were attacked on October 22th at Fatehpur Sikri in the Uttar Pradesh when they were walking near the railway station.

A group of boys chased them and wanted to take photo with Marie, the couple refused and the boys rained stones and sticks on Jeremy. Marie too was not spared in the brutal attack.

The couple arrived at India on Sept 30, and stayed in Agra a day before they went to Fatehpur Sikri. Now the couple is treating at the Apollo hospital in New Delhi. Clerc has sustained a fracture in his skull and a clot in his brain. Doctors said, a blow landed on his right ear has caused hearing impairment. Marie has a broken-bone arm and multiple bruises.

Now Police have arrested one of the accused in the case. Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma condemned the attack and called it a “shame”.

External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said she has sought a report from the UP government. Its officials visited the couple in hospital.

The incident has again raised questions about the safety of foreign tourists in India.
