Bangkok (People’s Daily)- Thai exports continued to expand for a second consecutive month amid a new COVID-19 outbreak in January.

A global economic recovery, massive monetary and fiscal stimulus measures, as well as effective COVID-19 vaccines coupled with extensive vaccination supported Thai export growth.

Thai exports in January 2021 reached $19.71 billion, an increase of 0.35% compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, January 2021 exports were higher in value than the 5-year average of $18.32 billion. Thai imports declined by 5.24% to $19.91 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $202.39 million.

The export growth this month resulted from the 7.57% expansion of exports excluding gold, oil, and weaponry. Food, work-from-home products and home appliances, as well as Covid-19 protection products exports continued to soar.

Major industrial products, such as automobile and parts, electronic integrated circuits, and computers and parts also showed signs of recovery – providing momentum for Thai exports in the future.
