The virtual meeting in the Thailand Government Public Relations Department (PRD) Auditorium was chaired by Theerapat Prayurasiddhi, permanent secretary of the prime minister’s office.

PRD Director-General Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkumnerd and his deputies also joined the meeting.

With the theme "ASEAN: A Digital Community with Accessibility for All,” the sixth SOMRI+3 was attended by the 10 ASEAN member countries plus China, South Korea and Japan.

SOMRI Chairman Theerapat stated that SOMRI still attaches great importance to promoting the proactive roles of the information and media sector in building awareness and creating better understanding, as well as enhancing effective communication.

This intention has been upheld since the first SOMRI+3 in 2009, he said. Despite changes in the social context and landscape, SOMRI and its dialogue partners have continued to work closely together as partners, Theerapat noted.

Representatives of the three extra countries expressed their firm intention to promote information and media cooperation with ASEAN.

Attendees at the sixth SOMRI+3 reviewed the joint information work carried out by ASEAN, China, South Korea and Japan.

Other issues raised at the meeting were the results of the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on Coronavirus Disease 2019 and progress of the Work Plan on Enhancing ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation through Information and Media 2018-2023.

Sixth SOMRI+3 participants also prepared information for the Sixth Conference of ASEAN Plus Three Ministers Responsible for Information (6th AMRI+3) to be held on Friday, March 12 at the same auditorium.
