Bangkok (People's Daily) - Thailand on Saturday confirmed 33 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 2,733 since the virus first arrived in the kingdom in January.

899 patients remain hospitalized,  1,787 have recovered and returned home, and 47 died from complications related to the disease, according to Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health.

Thailand enforced a national curfew from 10 pm to 4 am starting April 3. All nationals except medics, emergency workers and personnel delivering medical supplies and patients, are urged to stay at home. There are about 1,000 checkpoints by policeman in the whole country.

The Thai government has restricted traffic and activities to control the pandemic, and banned people from entering the country until April 30 and only has allowed the entry of authorized citizens, which are subjected to a 14-day quarantine after arrival. 

Prime Minister Prayut  Chan-o-cha said the curfew is to better curb the spread of the pandemic due to the rising number of infections.

The pace of new infections has decreased to about 50 a day from 100 before the curfew was put in place.
