North Korea has detonated its only known nuclear test site on Thursday, with journalists from China, the US, South Korea, Russia and Britain witnessing the detonations.
The site is located deep inside the mountains in Punggye-ri, a village in Kilju County, North Hamgyong Province.
The site came to the public’s attention in 2006, after North Korea conducted its very first nuclear test. Tunnels can be seen entering the site through satellite imagery.
North Korea’s six nuclear tests were conducted at the site, most recently in September 2017. Pyongyang has claimed that its nuclear tests have not threatened the environment.
