The United States has added more than 9 million jobs over the past three months after it took a heavy toll from the coronavirus epidemic. However, the job gains are mostly part-time with less pay, CNN reported.

In July alone, the US economy added a total of 1.8 million jobs, but the number of people working part-time also rose by 803,000 to 24 million.

Sarah Thomas is among the many people getting their jobs back. However, with reduced working hours and less pay, she could not even earn enough to pay her bills, the report said.

"We added more jobs than most people expected, but the gains really were disproportionately part-time work," said Kate Bahn, the director of labor market policy at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. “That means even if workers are coming back, it's to jobs that pay less, and families will be worse off.”
