The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 3,135,750 with the global confirmed cases reaching 148,739,529 as of 5:00 pm BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

Current status (data as of 5:00 pm BJT, April 28):

India's death toll due to COVID-19 surpassed the 200,000-mark, reaching 201,187 on Wednesday, said federal health ministry.

Brazil's death toll reached 395,022 on Tuesday after 3,086 more people died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the country has decided to send a large consignment of medical assistance to India, which is hit hard by a drastic increase in COVID-19 infections.
