The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,859,011 with the global confirmed cases reaching 131,681,459 as of 9:30 am BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9:30 am BJT, April 6):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 555,392 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 30,777,152.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 13,013,601. The death toll grew to 332,752.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 12,589,067. The death toll grew to 165,101.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in France have increased to 4,893,971 with 97,005 deaths.

It is followed by Russia with 4,538,101 infections and 99,049 deaths, UK with 4,376,629 infections and 127,106 deaths, Italy with 3,678,944 cases and 111,326 deaths, Turkey with 3,529,601 cases and 32,456 deaths, and Spain with 3,311,325 cases and 75,783 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 2,903,036 with 77,070 deaths.
