The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 733,929 with the global confirmed cases reaching 20,004,254 as of 9 am BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9 am BJT, August 11):

The Chinese mainland registered 44 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, of which 13 were domestically transmitted and 31 were imported, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday.

A total of 505 COVID-19 cases were confirmed since July 4 in connection with public venues in 61 cities across seven provinces in Canada, according to Canadian Project Pandemic on Monday.

A well-known Hindu temple in India has seen more than 740 novel coronavirus cases among its staff in the past two months, a temple official said on Monday, as cases in the country surged past 2.2 million.

Nationwide, Mexico reported 5,558 newly confirmed coronavirus cases Monday, bring the accumulated total to 485,836. Confirmed deaths rose by 705 to just over 53,000.

Brazil on Monday said it registered 703 deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the previous 24 hours, raising the total death toll to 101,752.
