The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 738,910 with the global confirmed cases reaching 20,196,850 as of 9:00 am BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9:00 am BJT, Aug 12):

The Chinese mainland registered 25 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, of which nine were domestically transmitted and 16 were imported, the National Health Commission said on Wednesday.

Brazil on Tuesday recorded 52,160 new COVID-19 cases and 1,274 more deaths from the disease, the health ministry has said.
Chile
 reported on Tuesday that the total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country has risen to 376,616, with 10,178 deaths. According to the Health Ministry, in the previous 24 hours, tests detected 1,566 new cases and 39 more patients died of the virus. 

Iran on Tuesday called for extending the cooperation on fighting COVID-19 in Eastern Mediterranean region. Meanwhile, the tally of coronavirus infections in Saudi Arabia surpassed 290,000. The total COVID-19 infections in Iran, the hardest-hit country in the Middle East, rose to 331,189 after 2,345 new cases were registered.

Egypt's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday 168 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the country to 95,834. It is the 10th consecutive day for Egypt's COVID-19 daily infections to fall below 200. The daily count started to exceed 200 on April 23 before hitting a record 1,774 on June 19.
