The latest: COVID-19 outbreak worldwide (Updated August 21)

The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 4,416,285 with the global confirmed cases reaching 210,911,988 as of 7:00 pm BJT on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 7:00 pm BJT, Aug 21):

The outbreak has now claimed 627,862 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 37,615,950 infections.

India has confirmed a total of 32,393,286 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 433,964.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 20,528,099 with 573,511 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 6,660,316 confirmed cases and 113,472 deaths.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 172,257 lives in Russia, bringing the total number of infections to 6,633,521.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 6,459,648 with the number of deaths at 131,805, according to the JHU virus tracker.

Turkey has confirmed 6,177,660 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 54,095.

It is followed by Argentina with 110,070 deaths from 5,124,963 infections.

Colombia has reported 4,883,932 COVID-19 cases and 124,023 deaths from the virus so far.

A total of 4,770,453 people in Spain have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 83,136.
