The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 811,748 with the global confirmed cases reaching 23,566,502 as of 9:30 am BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Mexican authorities said Monday they have started price-gouging investigations to sanction 420 businesses, including stores and funeral homes, for unfairly raising prices during the coronavirus pandemic.

Morocco registered 903 new COVID-19 cases and 32 deaths on Monday, increasing the tally of infections since March 2 to 53,252 and the death toll to 920.

Ethiopia's confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 42,143 after 1,472 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed on Monday, the country's Ministry of Health said.

Syrian constitutional talks at the United Nations were put on hold just hours after they began on Monday after three delegates tested positive for COVID-19, the UN said.

The United States announced an emergency authorization to use blood plasma from recovered coronavirus patients as a treatment for the disease, which has killed more than 800,000 people around the world.
