Globally, as of 3:17 pm CEST on Thursday, there have been 18,614,177 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 702,642 deaths, WHO reported.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 159,990 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 4,877,115, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:35 pm BJT on Friday.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 2,912,212. The death toll grew to 98,493.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 1,964,536. The death toll grew to 40,699.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 870,187 with 14,579 deaths.

It is followed by South Africa with 538,184 infections and 9,604 deaths, Mexico with 456,100 infections and 49,698 deaths, Peru with 447,624 cases and 20,228 deaths and Chile with 366,671 cases and 9,889 deaths.

Colombia’s confirmed cases have increased to 345,714, with the number of deaths at 11,624, according to the JHU virus tracker.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iran have increased to 320,117 with 17,976 deaths.
