The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,591,622 with the global confirmed cases reaching 70,115,461 as of 9:27 am BJT on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 294,715 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 15,820,714.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 9,796,769. The death toll grew to 142,186.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 6,781,799. The death toll grew to 179,765.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 2,574,319 with 45,370 deaths.

It is followed by France with 2,405,210 infections and 57,671 deaths, United Kingdom with 1,814,395 infections and 63,603 deaths, Italy with 1,805,873 cases and 63,387 deaths, Spain with 1,730,575 cases and 47,624 deaths and Argentina with 1,489,328 cases and 40,606 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Colombia have increased to 1,408,909 with 38,669 deaths.
