The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,603,577 with the global confirmed cases reaching 71,623,753 as of 9:26 am BJT on Sunday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 297,789 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 16,045,596.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 9,826,775. The death toll grew to 142,628.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 6,880,127. The death toll grew to 181,123.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 2,602,048 with 45,923 deaths.

It is followed by France with 2,405,255 infections and 57,671 deaths, United Kingdom with 1,835,949 infections and 64,123 deaths, Italy with 1,825,775 cases and 64,036 deaths, Spain with 1,730,575 cases and 47,624 deaths and Argentina with 1,494,602 cases and 40,668 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Colombia have increased to 1,417,072 with 38,866 deaths.
