The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,606,137 with the global confirmed cases reaching 71,762,766 as of 5:30 pm BJT on Sunday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 5:30 pm BJT, Dec 13):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 297,837 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 16,067,031, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 5:30 pm BJT on Sunday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 9,857,029. The death toll grew to 143,019.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 6,880,127. The death toll grew to 181,123.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 2,629,699 with 46,404 deaths.

It is followed by France with 2,405,255 infections and 57,671 deaths, United Kingdom with 1,835,949 infections and 64,123 deaths, Italy with 1,825,775 cases and 64,306 deaths, Turkey with 1,809,809 cases and 16,199 deaths and Spain with 1,730,575 cases and 47,624 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Argentina have increased to 1,494,602 with 40,668 deaths.
