The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,732,961 with the global confirmed cases reaching 78,822,167 as of 8 pm BJT on Thursday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,123,778 as 24,712 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the federal health ministry. According to the data, the death toll mounted to 146,756 with 312 more deaths.

Russia registered another 29,935 COVID-19 cases and 635 more deaths over the past 24 hours, the highest daily number of infections and fatalities since the start of the pandemic, the country's official COVID-19 monitoring and response center said Thursday.

Germany reported 32,195 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours on Thursday, bringing the national tally to 1,587,115, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The nationwide death toll rose by 802 to 28,770, the RKI data showed.

Thailand on Thursday announced tightened measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, with new cases detected in more than one-third of its provinces.

A total of 1,001,132 COVID-19 cases and 17,395 deaths were registered in Ukraine as of Thursday, while 631,435 patients have recovered, the country's health ministry reported.
