The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,775,984 with the global confirmed cases reaching 81,348,811 as of 6:00 pm BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 6:00 pm BJT, Dec 29):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 334,963 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 19,308,465, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 6:00 pm BJT on Tuesday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 10,224,303. The death toll grew to 148,153.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 7,504,833. The death toll grew to 191,570.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 3,073,923 with 55,107 deaths.

It is followed by France with 2,619,616 infections and 63,235 deaths, United Kingdom with 2,336,704 infections and 71,217 deaths, Turkey with 2,162,775 cases and 20,135 deaths, Italy with 2,056,277 cases and 72,370 deaths and Spain with 1,879,413 cases and 50,122 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 1,675,251 with 31,145 deaths.
