The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,806,155 with the global confirmed cases reaching 82,777,305 as of 5:30 pm BJT on Thursday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 5:30 pm BJT, Dec 31):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 342,395 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 19,744,734, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 5:30 pm BJT on Thursday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 10,266,674. The death toll grew to 148,738.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 7,619,200. The death toll grew to 193,875.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 3,127,347 with 56,271 deaths.

It is followed by France with 2,657,624 infections and 64,508 deaths, UK with 2,440,202 infections and 72,657 deaths, Turkey with 2,194,272 cases and 20,642 deaths, Italy with 2,083,689 cases and 73,604 deaths and Spain with 1,910,218 cases and 50,689 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 1,741,153 with 33,231 deaths.
