The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,251,345 with the global confirmed cases reaching 103,830,367 as of 8:30 am BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 8:30 am BJT, February 3):

Another 16,840 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,863,757, according to official figures released Tuesday.

France counted another 23,337 coronavirus cases and 404 deaths in the past 24 hours, health authorities' figures showed on Tuesday.

Turkey on Tuesday reported 7,795 new COVID-19 cases, including 630 symptomatic patients, as the total confirmed cases in the country reached 2,492,977.

Chile registered on Tuesday 3,138 COVID-19 infections and 22 deaths in the last 24 hours, for accumulated totals of 734,035 confirmed cases and 18,559 deaths, the Ministry of Health said.

Cuba on Tuesday reported over 1,000 new daily cases of novel coronavirus infection for the second time in less than a week, after tests detected 1,044 new cases.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent reached 3,579,368 as of Tuesday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
