The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,011,230 with the global confirmed cases reaching 93,943,702 as of 6:30 pm BJT on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The largest vaccine center in the US was launched at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles County on Friday as the metropolitan area is about to hit the latest grim milestone of 1 million total cases this weekend.

Indonesia recorded 14,224 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the highest single-day rise since the outbreak of the virus, bringing the country's total cases to 896,642, the Health Ministry said. The ministry also reported 283 more fatalities, bringing the country's coronavirus death toll to 25,767.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,542,841 on Saturday as 15,158 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry. According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 152,093 as 175 COVID-19 patients died since Friday morning. Saturday is a crucial day in India's fight against the pandemic as the nationwide vaccination drive is scheduled to be kicked off during the day.

Thailand on Saturday confirmed 230 new cases of coronavirus infection, mostly domestic, and one more fatality, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). Of the total new cases, 209 cases were reported as domestic while 21 others had returned from abroad and tested positive in the country, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Saturday reported 2,058 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 498,691. The death toll climbed to 9,884 after eight more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added 406 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 460,133.
