The latest: COVID-19 outbreak worldwide (Updated January 26)

The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,142,224 with the global confirmed cases reaching 99,786,313 as of 7:30 pm BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 7:30 pm BJT, January 26):

The first U.S. case of a coronavirus variant discovered in Brazil has been confirmed in Minnesota, the state's Department of Health said in a statement on Monday.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,676,838 on Tuesday as 9,102 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the health ministry. This is the first day in several months when the number of new cases registered in a day fell below the 10,000-mark.

Russia registered 18,241 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 3,756,931, the country's COVID-19 response center said Tuesday.

Thailand on Tuesday confirmed a record daily tally of 959 cases of coronavirus infection, mostly via active testing in Samut Sakhon province, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

The green light for New Zealand's first COVID-19 vaccine could be granted in just over a week, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Tuesday.
