The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,187,659 with the global confirmed cases reaching 101,371,256 as of 9:00 am BJT on Friday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9:00 am BJT, January 29):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 432,540 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 25,732,940, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 9:00 am BJT on Friday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 10,701,193. The death toll grew to 153,847.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 9,058,687. The death toll grew to 221,547.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in UK have increased to 3,754,447 with 103,324 deaths.

It is followed by Russia with 3,752,548 infections and 70,533 deaths, France with 3,166,108 infections and 74,601 deaths, Spain with 2,705,001 cases and 57,806 deaths, Italy with 2,515,507 cases and 87,381 deaths and Turkey with 2,457,118 cases and 25,605 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 2,194,562 with 55,450 deaths.
